PROFILE OF UNICROSS (CRUTECH)

The University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, is a state owned University formerly known as Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), UNICROSS, was established in February, 2020, by the Cross River State Law No.2 of 2020. At the time of its establishment, there existed Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), which was established in August 2002, to offer Programmes in Science and Technology only.
The establishment of the University of Cross River State came as a response by the Cross River State Government to the yearnings and call by Cross Riverians for a multi-disciplinary (conventional) State University that will afford greater access to University education to the teaming Secondary School leavers and youths of the State.
Thus, UNICROSS, in addition to the Science and Technology Programmes which CRUTECH was confined to, has the broad base mandate torn Courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Medicine, etc.
The University of Cross River State has its humble historical metamorphosis having evolved from Cross River University of Technology which itself was a product of an amalgam of three former independent Cross River State-owned owned tertiary institutions, namely: The Polytechnic, Calabar; Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa; and Ibrahim Babangida College of Agriculture, Obubra.
The University is established primarily to provide basic training and research and also impart research skills to equip Nigerians of various backgrounds in all areas of learning. It seeks to become a foremost University in Nigeria with highly regarded and earned reputation for quality teaching, research and Community service, meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people of Cross River State and Nigeria.

in essence, the University seeks to achieve academic and cultural excellence, through evolving and implementing academic Programmes that are specifically suited for the needs and interest of the people of Nigeria in general and Cross River State in particular. The University is a body Corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal.

Academic Programmes of the University are offered at undergraduate and post graduate levels. It operates the course credit system.
The University of Cross River State operates a multi campus structure. It has four Campuses, all located within Cross River State, as follows:

1. Calabar Campus: (which is the Administrative Headquarters of the University) is located at Ekpo Abasi Sreeet in Calabar South
Local Government Area and houses the
Faculties of Mass Communication, Engineering, Education, Architecture, Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences.

2. Obubra Campus: located at Ovonum in Obubra Local Government Area, houses the Faculty of Agriculture.

3. The Ogoja Campus: located at Ogoja in Ogoja Local Government Area, houses the Faculty of Management Sciences.

4. Okuku Campus: is located at Okuku in Yala Local Government Area, and houses the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.
The University has a staff strength of 385 academic staff, 104 Technologist, 507 SeniorNon- teaching and 109 Junior staff.
